Dressing

Here are some features that may be helpful when choosing clothing to dress your child, especially if you have decreased hand strength and function.

Zippers

  • Helpful for those with limited dexterity or fine motor control.
  • Could attach adaptive zipper pull to increase ease of manipulating fastener.

Velcro

  • Helpful for those with limited dexterity or fine motor control to manipulate.
  • Stronger material to use and hold clothing together.

Snaps

  • Modifying garments with velcro can be easier for some to manipulate.
  • Snaps can be difficult and time consuming to manipulate, especially for those with decreased hand function and pinch strength.

Magnets

  • Helpful for those with limited dexterity or fine motor control to manipulate.
  • Could be more expensive to purchase, or have to do it yourself.
